HISTORY:
In 1987 People United For Families was born from the concept that working by together as a community, we could accomplish much more than we each could accomplish individually. The first service provided by People United For Families was a Case Coordination Team. The Study Buddies Tutoring Program was developed in 1993, followed by the After School Club in 1998, and then the TeamMates Mentoring Program in 1999. As the organization expanded, more programs were added such as the Juvenile Diversion Program and the implementation of Parents And Communities Together (PACT) in 2004.
FUNDING:
Support for early programming came primarily from volunteers and in-kind support through the United Way, local foundations, organizations and individuals. In 2001, People United For Families began leveraging the cash and in-kind support provided to apply for state and federal grants, enabling the organization to hire staff to coordinate existing programs, expand current programming and add new programs and services for youth and families in Otoe County. People United For Families collaborates with TeamMates of Nebraska City, Otoe County, Nebraska City Public Schools, Syracuse Public School and Otoe County CASA to administrative, clerical and office function support.
